
GREAT OREGON BOOK READ DISCUSSION

In his groudbreaking book, Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, The Surgeon General of the United States, discusses loneliness as a public health issue and a root cause and contributor to many of the epidemics sweeping the world today from alcohol and drug addiction to violence, depression, and anxiety. His message about the importance of human connection and the power of community is timely and hopeful.

This event is part of the Great Oregon Book Read, a state-wide shared reading initiative that invites Oregonians to read a single book, come together to talk about it, engage in solutions that make our communities more livable and age friendly.
The Great Oregon Book Read is presented by AARP Oregon and Oregon Age-Friendly Communities, in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Human Services, and the Oregon Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative.
